Yesterday saw me down at the sunny South Coast on a little photo-taking jaunt. Brighton actually.
Though it wasn’t especially sunny. In fact it wasn’t sunny at all. It was overcast, and damn chilly.
Though I wasn’t cold. Quite warm really. From running around all over the place… er… well, more like ambling rapidly I suppose. Running isn’t really on my list of approved activities. I’m not entirely certain “ambling rapidly” is either but needs must sometimes. Especially when rapid movement is dictated by circumstances sort of thing.
So whatever possessed me to undertake this most recent lunacy, particularly given that I’d been up all the previous night doing other stuff? And was feeling pretty much knackered even before the day started.
Well, aside from the whole “not being right in the head” business, what we had was a bunch of smashEDO protesters attending a “Remember Gaza” demo, held to commemorate the bombing of Gaza last year. And me being somewhat sympathetic to the cause it just had to be done.
Came away with a load of pics that are nothing particularly to write home about, and no doubt I’ll be penning a fuller account of this latest escapade elsewhere in due course. No time at the moment. Far too busy having spent most of the day editing and processing pics, uploading them to various places where they need to be uploaded to, and other such stuff. And dammit I’m getting tired again!
Must be all that lack of sleep catching up with me.
Meanwhile, the complete set of pics are now here on Flickr.
And for more info on the event check out Indymedia.
It was also the first time I took the Lumix out to an event. Performed brilliantly it did. Had it set on the “Intelligent Auto” mode (having switched back to colour) and I was well impressed with the results. That pic above of the coffin is one of them.
What also impressed me was its performance on full zoom or pretty much (goes up to 18x optical) and its antishake gizmo. Really effective it proved to be.
Though with some shots on full zoom it did tend to overexpose a little. Possibly an effect of the really high ISO it seemed to select (presumably to help the antishake mechanism). 1250 on one occasion (!) although on average it seemed to want to aim for between 400/800 when I called the telephoto into significant play.
I’m guessing it would have performed rather more sensibly had there been bright sunlight. No complaints from me however cos the pics were well usable.
Another plus is of course that its not quite as conspicuous as my other cameras (though naturally I still shot most of the pics with the trusty old GX10).

Always the busy lad you are. And there is something very odd about the third image down….like I’ve seen a shot from the same location and in the same direction at a previous demo you uploaded.
You may well have done. This wasn’t my first visit to Brighton by a long stretch… and given that the establishment the protesters are objecting to hasn’t been magically transported to another location then the route to it tends to be… er… the same.

I think this is the picture that I’m remembering….is this the same location?

Well, its certainly the same stretch of road.
