So when was the last time we had snow for Christmas hereabouts?
Dunno. What I do know though is that the notion of a “white Christmas” seems to have become embedded in the mass psyche here as something of a joke.
Is this year likely to be different then?
Dunno that either. But the past few days have seen a bit of a snowfall. Bloody cold as well! In fact, a touch of the proverbial “brass monkey” weather. Only thing is, whenever its been snowing I’ve not really had the opportunity to snap it.
T’other day I was planning on getting a few early morning shots of lovely snow-bedecked trees and crisp clean snowbound village roads in the gentle dawn light, before any vehicles had a chance to mess them up. They would have been super. Absolutely the best shots of the year, without any doubt whatsoever. Or so I tell myself.
Except it didn’t happen. The good old 2009 syndrome obviously asserting its evil self again (if that’s a bit of an abstruse reference, check out this post).
Y’see, what actually happened was a power cut. About half three in the morning.
Emergency measures instantly kick in… Torch? Check. Camping gas burner? Check. Kettle on for nice warming brew of “special” coffee? Check. Extra duvet on bed? Check. Jump into bed instead of being my normal stupid night-owl self? Check.
Power came on again about ten in the morning, by which time I really couldn’t be asked to do anything at all.
Well, at least it kept me away from the damn infernal machines!
Early hours of this morning though I did finally manage a coupla shots. Nothing spectacular. And although there’s still lingering white stuff in the village, most of the town’s now pretty clear.
Pity really. Cos I was so looking forward to grabbing a feast of snow pics in black and white with this ‘ere Lumix camera. Damn!
And that could well be the closest we’ll get to a white Christmas this year. Again.
Maybe.
Not that I’m particularly eager for a white Christmas. Far as I’m concerned the bloody stuff can stay where it belongs… in Father Christmas land!
However, there is one good thing happening at the mo’. We’re practically at Winter Solstice… which means the days are gonna start getting longer again. Yippee!

I know the feeling, started snowing on thursday, when I was visiting the Mother, didn’t take camera with me cos I had to go to Hospital after and by the time I had finished at the hospital, the snow turned to rain… bugger.
Snowed again over night so friday morning I walk to work with camera in hand eager to get some shots and the bloody local council had gritted everything, not like them to be so on the ball, what was left of it was a bit slushy and dirty, can’t wait for 2009 to be over then maybe we’ll have a better year(probably not tho)
Yeah, I think it was Friday morning we had the power cut. Which was a damn shame cos that’s when the snow looked its best and I was well psyched up for it. Or I would have been had I not been so bloody cold and pissed off by the cut!
Still, its Monday now and its snowing again so there’s hope yet.
Of all those emergency measures indicated not one said anything about ensuring the safety of the whisky. Clearly that should be at or near the top of the list of things to do!
Oh, the whisky was quite safe… it was in my “special” coffee. Hence why its special.
