What with the country being in the state its in and everything I thought it might be an idea to take a wander around the market and watch the mad pre-Christmas spending spree not starting to happen.
So I did.
And it didn’t. Start to happen that is.
Began chatting with a couple of the market traders and they were saying they’ve been hit really hard… not helped in the least by Bedford Council’s exorbitant fees for stallholders.
And, like me, they fear there’s worse to come… when the effects of all those folks currently losing their jobs begins to be felt.
It doesn’t bode well!
Right. So, with that bit of documentary stuff out of the way time to adjourn to The Bear for some refreshment, and to annoy mate of course.
Now, as regular visitors here will be aware, I’ve recently been messing around with black and white. Not that I’ve become addicted to it or anything. But you can’t knock a thing until you’ve tried it, can you?
And I’ve suddenly discovered what mate realised ages ago… that the pub really seems to lend itself to the b&w treatment.
Well, I think so anyway.
Which means that suddenly the potential for loads more pics there begins to loom upon the horizon. Oh jolly good!
Then a stroll back into the town centre for some pics of something else that I’ve been promising myself (that’ll likely appear on one of my other blogs) and of course, whilst there, grab a few shots of the town’s Christmas illuminations.
Well, it just has to be done, doesn’t it? Only problem is, they’re beginning to get damn boring now!
Same as last year. And the year before that. And the… [yawn]

I really like the black and white tobacco photo. The market looks so empty and a little depressing because it’s the holidays and things shouldn’t look that empty.
There were also far less stalls than I was expecting to find for the time of year. And although there were people milling around no-one appeared to be buying anything very much at all.
Still, a few days left yet so I shall be interested to see what its like next week.
Ahhh…..b&w of Stalag Bear and snaps of the relatively empty market. Now this is depressing stuff I can handle!
