Not my best effort at all

Another day, another event. This time in Brighton, for the smashEDO Mayday Street Party (and march, and various other “activities”!). They called it “Mayday” but it was actually on Monday, the 4th. A sort of token Bank Holiday. (You can read about the relevant campaign here).

So, I wandered down there on Sunday afternoon and spent the best part of the next few hours trying to contact someone (anyone!) to see if I could organise some crash-space for myself.
Had I not been able to do so it would have meant a trip back up to “hometown” and then back down to Brighton again bright and early in the morning.
Bugger that for a lark!

Fortune smiled on me though and something got sorted.

No doubt I’ll be writing more of my escapades elsewhere, as is getting to be my routine, focussing principally on the photography side on this particular blog.

So, regarding photography, not a lot to say really.

Sunday was a gorgeous day, and I didn’t take any pics.

Monday, although starting reasonably well, eventually turned out grey, drizzly at times, and windy down near the seafront where I seemed to spend an inordinate amount of time. And I took a load of pics!

The rest of the time I seemed to be tramping all around the town in ever-diminishing circles.
Got cramp in the legs and, instead of resting for a while, just carried on. As a consequence of which (presumably), having returned home in the early hours of Tuesday morning and (after offloading all the pics to the infernal machine) dived into bed, surfacing later Tuesday morning to find I could barely walk!
Must have strained a muscle or something cos ever since I’ve been hobbling around like a cripple (oops, its probably completely un-PC to say that… but sod it!).

Mate Darren of course finds it enormously funny. But then, I wouldn’t expect anything less. Not from him at least.
So there’s him still hobbling around with his sore arse, and now me hobbling around with my buggered leg.
In fact, if we’d both been down in Brighton together shooting pics in our current state no doubt we would have been the laughing-stock of the entire activist community there. Thinking about it even now causes me to chuckle.

Photo-wise, well, my immediate concern was to get pics uploaded to the various places they needed to be uploaded to and, having reviewed what I’ve plonked onto Flickr (the complete set’s here by the way) I’m beginning to suspect that maybe I was a tad hasty.
Should have taken a bit more care with them cos by and large they could all stand a bit of tweaking.

I put it all down to the urgency, the tiredness, and the various aches and pains.
Not my best effort at all.

I suppose really I should re-process but, to be honest, I’m sort of lacking the requisite drive at the moment.
The other thing that’s really irritated me is a phenomenon I’ve noticed before with Flickr, and its really noticeable this time with all the pics of the police FIT (Forward Intelligence Teams) officers.
They have blue “yokes” on their hiviz jackets. Its a particular shade of blue with which I’m very familiar (surprise surprise), and its one of the “indicator colours” I use when processing pics of them.

Well, with all of these pics from Brighton where that particular shade of blue appears it looks fine in Lightroom. Spot on in fact.
So I develop the pics, output them as JPEGs, and check them in my “quick and dirty” image browser, XNview. Where they also look fine.

Upload ‘em to Flickr and what do I find? The blue looks far too vivid, over-saturated almost. As I said, I’ve noticed the phenomenon before with Flickr and its bloody irritating.

Normally I’ll tweak to allow for this (to some extent at least) but, unfortunately, this time I just forgot to do so. And, as I said, I’m not sure I can be asked to re-process/replace them all.

Oh well.

Anyway, here’s a few taster shots…

Hope your leg(s) is/are better. I hate to get leg cramps. HATE THEM! I get them after I’ve been walking/running long distances.

Saw my first demonstration over the weekend. It was a rather small Stop the War demo. It was neat to see!

I promise to snicker only a very tiny bit regarding your body giving out on you. But you really shouldn’t be surprised considering your age.
    ;-)

Maybe you could post a re-processed picture where you have adjusted the blue such that it appears right on Flickr and we can compare the two. I’ve never thought your blues were wrong, but maybe the difference is more subtle than I’m imagining.

I’ll just ignore that nasty snide remark about the passing years ;)
      Prob’ly didn’t help that overall health wasn’t 100% anyway.

Re the blues, yeah, soon as I’ve got a mo’ I’ll do that.

Well perhaps you can take comfort in the knowledge that I’m not that far behind you age-wise and will, no doubt, find myself suffering just like you.

Now…if only you live long enough to see that happen so you might enjoy yourself…
    ;-)
