Can’t let this momentous event pass without at least a brief mention. Ok, so I’m a bit behind everyone else, but that’s really only an illusion.

In fact I’d written a rather lengthy post about it quite a few hours ago, but somehow I then managed to start ranting on about the relative merits of Yahoo vs Google and, well, the whole thing got a bit out of hand. So I pulled it.

But this news (about Microsucks walking away from the deal) caused me to experience something almost approaching joy. Phew! At least now they won’t get their hands on Flickr (which was the main cause of my concern)… for the mo’ anyway.

Almost makes me wanna forgive Flickr for allowing video uploads. Especially if that was a ploy on their part to help up their value and thus evade the MS clutches.

Yep, we are happy too. Very happy.

Oh my dear friend….how silly of you. Clearly you need an education on take-over strategy.

Microsoft pulls its very generous offer to buy Yahoo. (generous meaning at a price well above Yahoo’s stock price).

Yahoo’s stock price, after having jumped about 50% when Microsoft announced its offer, has already dropped about what; 15% or so?

This slide may continue and Yahoo’s price may drop below its pre-Microsoft-offer level at which point shareholders will be quite unimpressed and push very hard for the Yahoo board to reconsider the offer. So much so that litigation may be involved (horrors!)

Which, of course, means Microsoft will tender a lower offer than the original because the stock price will have dropped below the level it was at the original offering.

Microsoft will be able to pickup Yahoo at a lower price and Yahoo shareholders will sing the praises of Microsoft for having saved them from the nefarious doings of the Yahoo board.

You’re biting your nails now, aren’t you?

Yeah, that possibility had also occurred to me, watching how Yahoo’s stock has slumped. So maybe its only a temporary reprieve, but one can always hope.

  4. forkboy Says:

Maybe we should make an offer to Yahoo? I’ve got about USD30 in my pocket.

  5. fotdmike Says:

I can prob’ly rustle up a coupla quid or so.

  6. forkboy Says:

Maybe we could get Tam, LifeSpy, Darren, etc. to chip in as well? Hell, we could find ourselves with maybe a hundred quid or so! Who could turn down that offer?
