A day at the Zoo

I know I’ve been whining recently about the noticeable non-happening of bad weather hereabouts but I didn’t expect to end up having to stand around in the sleet and snow all day as my reward!

Ok, maybe that’s a slight exaggeration, but not much of a one.

I’ve learned a lesson though (finally!)… wore my thermals today cos I’ve just about had enough this year of standing around for hours at a time in various cold or drafty places and getting completely chilled.

Anyway, the event of which I speak was the demo staged by Bedford Animal Action outside Whipsnade Zoo in Dunstable to mark Zoo Awareness Day, which is called every year by the Captive Animals Protection Society (CAPS) to raise awareness of the suffering of animals in zoos. Its held on Easter Monday which is one of the busiest times of the year for zoos.

So at last I managed to get some snow pics (not quite what I’d had in mind though!).

When I go to flickr it will let me select View as Slideshow, but the images don’t come up.

Hmm… dunno what’s happening there. Never used the option myself. I’ll check it out and report back (mind you, sometimes Flickr can be a bit slow or parts of it intermittently non-functioning - they’ve been having database “issues” for a while now and have been working over the past coupla months to resolve them).

Seems to work all right for me. Two possibilities… maybe you tried during a period of heavy Flickr usage? Try again later.

Or perhaps its some security setting on your machine that needs tweaking?

It worked for me today. Strange. My security settings haven’t changed since the last time I viewed your pics via slideshow. Must have been at flickrs end.

    Yeah, that’s prob’ly right.

Most Flickr issues seem to be at their end. If it were some other site I’d probably have found an alternative long before now.
Thing is though, when it does work (which actually is most of the time) its superb, and I love the features and interface. Well worth putting up with the occasional slow (or non-existent) page-loads and other strange glitches.
